Dear Parents,

So we are coming to the end of another school year and as I reflect on what has transpired, I believe it has been a good one.

There have been many school activities and achievements in all aspects of school developments.  Pupils and staff have been engaged in many activities, educational visits, school events, sports, training and my thanks to all who have taken part, pupils and staff.  Education and overall results, show the school as a highly placed primary school in league tables of Lancashire and nationally, all credit to Paul and his hardworking and dedicated staff.  No wonder every year we are oversubscribed for the 30 places new entrants.  SATS Results again were excellent, well done class 6.

It gives me great pleasure to note that over recent years the school has developed a sporting side.  Boys and girls now participate in football, rugby, hockey, netball, tennis, swimming and rounders.  Very recently they were worthy winners of the Lancashire Youth Games and High 5 Tournament- a very smart trophy is now in the sports cabinet.  The trophy was presented to the school by no other than Sir Tom Finney and in the hockey section, school were winners again.  Well done to all of you.  The football teams also continue to play well with good results.

And whilst we currently live in recessional times, the support you gave to the PTFA Summer Fair on 4th July was most gratifying, the sum of approx £2700 was raised, I know that all proceeds come back to the benefit of the pupils.  I see the results of what Jeanette Gibson (PTFA Chairman) and her team produce, thank you Jeanette.

So, I now say goodbye to class 6, it’s been a pleasure to have you with us, all these years.  I have been associated with you from reception class and you all know why, and many of you know me personally, I will be genuinely sorry to see you go, but wherever you go and to which High School, Good Luck and best wishes to you all, in your new life, but always remember that you were schooled at Longsands and be proud of it.

Finally it would be remiss of me not to thank the Headteacher, teaching staff, T.A’s and all the other ‘ back room’ staff that contribute to a well run and successful school.  To my Governor colleagues, thank you for your continued support and co-operation, especially the work entailed in achieving the FMIS (Financial Management in Schools) Award.

From me to you and until September, enjoy the holidays.

Yours sincerely,

John Marler
